Constant but conscious evolution is essential in the specialty food space. Pacific Pickle Works knows this well and has worked to introduce another brand over the past couple of years: The People's Provisions. I connected with Bradley Bennett, Principal Provisioner, to learn more.

We are creating these products to be best-in-class, all-natural, and better-for-you than the major name brands,” Bradley began telling me.

The company started with a very simple line of crowd-favorite pickle flavors: Garlic Dill, Bread & Butter, Sweet & Spicy, and Spicy Garlic. The People’s Provisions gave these pickle varieties just a little more punch, so the flavors are bold and the crunch is unparalleled from a shelf-stable set of pickles, Bradley pointed out. At the same time, the brand has simplified its manufacturing process while keeping the products 100 percent clean label to offer a slightly lower-priced, healthier option for consumers.

Last year we expanded that line to include an introductory set of condiments that have already started creating dedicated repeat customers who wanted a better ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish,” Bradley added. “Our Rustic Ketchup has a more natural tomato flavor and mouthfeel with half the sugar of the major name brands. Our Dill Pickle Relish is a semi-sweet and fully natural relish that again has a fraction of the sugar of the major national brands, and without the artificial neon green coloring.”

He continued, “Our mustard is what we are referring to as a ‘New American Rustic Mustard’ which has the creaminess of dijon mustard at its core, but has flecks of mustard seed for that extra bite from a coarse ground mustard that is great for dipping soft pretzels or putting on a hot dog or bratwurst. Next up in this line is a natural and plant-based version of that famous original burger ‘Special Sauce’ that will no doubt be best in class when it makes its debut later this year.”

Bradley explained that the company also created The People's Provisions as a platform for private label brands, which have launched with much success. These key natural condiments and pickles are a perfect set to create an in-store brand for natural channel chains seeking higher-quality products than national brands.

“We currently have distribution through United Natural Foods, Inc. in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California for this line and are in the process of opening up Southern California soon, which would fill out our Western U.S. distribution,” Bradley concluded. “Plus, we offer the entire line through Faire, where we ship wholesale across the U.S. And as always, we sell direct to consumer through our own online storefront and through Amazon.”
